Tucker is a goodhearted little guy who asks for nothing and sweetly tolerates my lackadaisical caretaker style.
On this occasion, he had no idea what to make of my reaction to his innocent little roll in…. a dead fish.
It was Wednesday, 1-July-2009, and we were only a few hours into a road trip from Austin, Texas to Washington DC where I was to start a new job at Discovery Channel the following Monday.
Just outside Dallas, we stopped at a reservoir and I let him off leash to sniff around and take care of business while I did a little sorting in the back of my packed Honda CR-V.
I caught him out of the corner of my eye in a field along the reservoir about 100 feet away. His ears were perky, his tail was wagging. Clearly, he was having a good time.
Then he dropped down out of sigh into the tall grass. Hmmm, that was interesting.
He popped back up. Still happily wagging, but what was he doing?
Back down out of sight. Then back up.
Oh my god. What had he found?
I shouted for him to come over while I grabbed my camera. Intuition correctly advised me that this was a recordable moment. The video says it all.
Tomorrow I’ll post a picture of Tuck “taking the cure” and a description of how it went down. [result of “the cure” was posted yesterday].
